Does a plague desensitize
the meaning of death?
Death
has a strange meaning as is, I know what it means but I’m not sure how much value
you can give to it. When someone or something ceases to exist they are
pronounced dead. The now dead organism can no longer contribute to their
environment in anyway, let it be their expression love, work, negativity or any
other characteristics any being may bring to the world. I think mass
extinction of any population would desensitize its meaning. To see death
on a regular basis becomes so… normal and maybe even boring. When the
plague hits, people are traumatized and sad for their now deceased loved
ones. The funerals that were once held to celebrate the deceased are no
longer elaborate and are rushed for the next processions. In All Souls, the young people were dying at a pretty
disturbing rate but the citizens in the neighbor easily turned their heads as
if it was no big deal. In The Plague a citizen stated, "Death means nothing to men like me. It's the event
that proves them right". Death
is a big deal and mass extinction should not change that.
